What I Learned From My Volunteering Experience - 1921 Words

Real Kids Project Reflection 3 1. The two most important things I learned from my volunteering experience are that all kids need attention and positive support. Whether they effectively seek it out or not and that kids comprehend significantly more about what is going on than they can express in words and therefore the environment provided at child care centers can have a big impact on the child’s early development. While working with the kids I thought that it was anything but difficult to pay attention to the cutest kids who were continually smiling and needing my attention. The children who were the trouble makers, and the initial few times I volunteered, these were the children who got the majority of my time. For the shyer, less vocal kids I discovered I needed to try to collaborate with them and once they got more comfortable around me, they were more likely to need me to lift them up when they got hurt or scared or play with them. Through this experience I understood that the greater part of the kids required a lots of attention, even the ones who did not want it at consistently. I understood the significance of making each kid feel vital and cared for by adults. I discovered that the kids could see a great deal more about what was going ahead around them then I foresee. They knew a wide assortment of commands and phrases and could make wide associations between past encounters and their present surroundings. One funny example of this happened when I was reading aShow MoreRelatedEssay On Volunteering1027 Words   |  5 PagesVolunteering and its Affect on My Life Volunteering has deeply scorched life changing experiences in my life. King Henry Viii Essay Example For Students

King Henry Viii Essay King Henry VIIIHenry VIII (born 1491, ruled 1509-1547). The second son of Henry VIIand Elizabeth of York was one of Englands strongest and least popularmonarchs. He was born at Greenwich on June 28, 1491. The first Englishruler to be educated under the influence of the Renaissance, he was agifted scholar, linguist, composer, and musician. As a youth he was gay andhandsome, skilled in all manner of athletic games, but in later life hebecame coarse and fat. When his elder brother, Arthur, died (1502), hebecame heir apparent. He succeeded his father on the throne in 1509, andsoon thereafter he married Arthurs young widow, Catherine of Aragon. We will write a custom essay on King Henry Viii specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now During the first 20 years of his reign he left the shaping of policieslargely in the hands of his great counselor, Cardinal Wolsey (See Wolsey,Cardinal). By 1527 Henry had made up his mind to get rid of his wife. Theonly one of Catherines six children who survived infancy was a sicklygirl, the Princess Mary, and it was doubtful whether a woman could succeedto the English throne. Then too, Henry had fallen in love with a lady ofthe court, Anne Boleyn. When the pope (Clement VII) would not annul his marriage, Henry turnedagainst Wolsey, deprived him of his office of chancellor, and had himarrested on a charge of treason. He then obtained a divorce through ThomasCranmer, whom he had made archbishop of Canterbury, and it was soonannounced that he had married Anne Boleyn. The pope was thus defied. All ties that bound the English church toRome were broken. Appeals to the popes court were forbidden, all paymentsto Rome were stopped, and the popes authority in England was abolished. In1534 the Act of Supremacy declared Henry himself to be Supreme Head of theChurch of England, and anyone who denied this title was guilty of an act oftreason. Some changes were also made in the church services, the Bible wastranslated into English, and printed copies were placed in the churches. The monasteries throughout England were dissolved and their vast lands andgoods turned over to the king, who in turn granted those estates tonoblemen who would support his policies. In the northern part of thekingdom the people rose in rebellion in behalf of the monks, but thePilgrimage of Grace, as it was called, was put down. Although Henry reformed the government of the church, he refused toallow any changes to be made in its doctrines. Before his divorce he hadopposed the teachings of Martin Luther in a book that had gained for himfrom the pope the title Defender of the Faitha title the monarch ofEngland still bears. After the separation from Rome he persecuted withequal severity the Catholics who adhered to the government of Rome and theProtestants who rejected its doctrines. Henry was married six times. Anne Boleyn bore the king one child, whobecame Elizabeth I. Henry soon tired of Anne and had her put to death. Afew days later he married a third wife, Jane Seymour. She died in a littlemore than a year, after having given birth to the future Edward VI. A marriage was then contracted with a German princess, Anne of Cleves, whom the king had been led to believe to be very beautiful. When he saw herhe discovered that he had been tricked, and he promptly divorced this wifeand beheaded Thomas Cromwell, the minister who had arranged the marriage. Henrys fifth wife, Catherine Howard, was sent to the block for misconduct. .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab , .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab .postImageUrl , .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab , .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab:hover , .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab:visited , .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab:active { border:0!important; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab:active , .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u682c7c7545a260dc1a9c1df90c3ad2ab:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Marketing Myopia EssayIn 1543 he married his sixth wife, the tactful and pious Catherine Parr. Race for the Double Helix essays

Race for the Double Helix essays Deoxyribonucleic Acid, DNA for short, is a molecule that has been one of the biggest mysteries of modern science. What is its structure? Does it contain the genetic code and if it does how is it used? These are some of the questions that puzzled scientist in the early fifties. Many scientists tried to figure out DNA but only four came close to answering the questions. Those scientists were James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, and Rosalind Franklin. Rosalind Franklin had university degrees in chemistry, she got her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Cambridge University. During WW2, Franklin had made contributions to understanding the structure of graphite and other carbon compounds. After the war she joined the Laboratoire Centrale des Services Chimiques de l'Etat in Paris, where she was introduced to the technique of X-ray crystallography and became a respected scientist in this field. In 1951 she returned to England to King's College, London, where she upgraded the X-ray crystallography laboratory there to work with DNA. Franklin was responsible for much of the research and work that led to the discovery of the structure of DNA. Franklin died of cancer in 1958, at 37. Maurice Wilkins was born in New Zealand but studied to be a physicist at St. John's College, Cambridge. He worked during World War II on the improvement of cathode-ray tube screens for radar and helped the United States work on the Manhattan Project. He researched biophysics with his Cambridge mentor, John T. Randall; first at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and then at King's College, London. It was Wilkins' idea to study DNA by using X-ray crystallographic, which he had already begun to use when Rosalind Franklin became a research associate for John Randall. The relationship between Wilkins and Franklin was not good which probably slowed their progress. In 1951, 23 year old James Watson, an American, got in to Cavendish Labora...

Leadership and innovation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Leadership and innovation - Essay Example This was supposed to be the case in innovation system that my group was supposed to come up with and present to hospitals (Northouse, 2012). However, team work does not always work out as one would like it to be and with this, there is bound to be friction between the members of the team. Furthermore, there is the possibility that, despite the urgency of the task, there is always bound to be the one person that would be considered as dead weight to the team. The aim of this paper is to act as a reflective diary to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of team work and the best way to deal with conflict in a team. To effectively analyze the strengths and weaknesses of team working and conflict management, I visited various hospitals, and this visit was part of an innovation trip that was supposed to be carried out as a team to make sure that the findings that were collected were to be compiled and presented to the different team members. However, this was not the case. When the team members met for the first day, there was a lot of friction between my team members due to the fact that some of the team members did not exhibit any of their findings or an interest in the task because they had not done anything. The fact that there were different people who had carried out the task at hand and others had not, caused tempers to flare and soon one team member was gunning for the others head. However, the point that arose was that there were different viewpoints on the same topic. This gave me as a leader whose team comprised of people of multidisciplinary backgrounds an opportunity to lead diverse people, and this was proving to be a problem in the long run. In a bid to curb the ensuing anger and conflict among the team member, I opted that the team members that had a background in nursing help those who were not as familiar with the topic. This put a spanner into the progress that the team was supposed to
